University of Edinburgh
Lecturer in Postgraduate Applied Learning
Dec 2015 - Aug 2023
In 2015, I was invited to be a professional tutor and mentor on the MSc in Film Exhibition and Curation postgraduate course in the University of Edinburgh's School of Literatures, Languages & Cultures.
Led by Jane Sillars and Susan Kemp, this innovative Masters programme explores film curatorship and exhibition using a combination of rigorous academic study and applied project work. I supported students to develop, curate and deliver their main applied learning project: a live cinema event incorporating archive film, often as part of the prestigious festivals such as Sundance Film Festival, Glasgow Film Festival and Edinburgh Science Festival. Previous years' events include MOVE! a hugely successful pop-up audio-visual experience featuring short film and archive mash up, accompanied by live music and new choreography, and the brilliantly curated events/series Restricted: A Crash Course in the Censorship and Classification of Sex on Film and Timescapes: Exploring observations of time through cinema.
I feel extremely proud to have been part of this work nurturing and encouraging the freshest curatorial talent from around the world based in Scotland. Each new cohort offers huge promise in their ideas and working practices.
