The Living Mountain
Archive Film Curator
Sep 2019 – Nov 2021
I was honoured to be asked by folk singer-songwriter Jenny Sturgeon to collaborate with her and filmmaker Robyn Spice on Jenny’s album and tour, The Living Mountain. As Jenny describes it herself:
“The project explores Nan's writing, the Cairngorm mountain range and human connections with the wild through lyrical, melodic and visual interpretation. The meditative experience of the combined audio and imagery are a soothing and poignant exploration of what it means to connect with a landscape and to find a sense of place.”
I researched archive films of the Cairngorms and re-purposed them alongside some stunning footage shot by Robyn and held by rewilding advocacy organisation Scotland: The Big Picture to create visual backdrops to Jenny’s beautiful songs drawing on Nan’s words in the book and in her poetry.
Jenny has been out on tour with The Living Mountain and it continues to grow wings with more artists becoming involved in her beautiful creative vision. If you would like to host a performance of The Living Mountain, please contact gail@laughingdogmusic.co.uk.
